Holly Rayner has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Carmen and Jason. Jason is a retired football player of the La Vega Vipers and co-owner of the team. Carmen is a reporter that has just gotten an assignment to do some articles on Jason. When she first goes to speak to him, he turns her down when he finds out who she is. Carmen is the sister of a rival of his from his football playing days. Jason has an owners meeting and this is where Michale Argentino has it voted that Jason do the articles. Michael is the owner of the Casino The Pearl and he is up to something. When Jason finds out, he tries to stop it. The articles that Carmen is doing on him, is giving the team a lot of good press. The more time that Carmen and Jason spend with each other, the more they grow closer. Stanley, Carmen's boss wants her to see if she can dig up any dirt on Jason while she is with him. She tells him that is not what she is going to do. Carmen is having lunch with Jason and he tells her about the exhibition game they are having in a few weeks in Cancun. Jason asked if the Ledger is going to send her with the team? She tells him that she doesn't know. He said that if they didn't, he would because he wanted her there with him. When Carmen goes into work the next day, she is called into Stanley's office. He says something about where she had lunch and that the paper is going to send her to Cancun so that she can cover the game and get more on Jason. At the after-party, Michale comes and talks to Jason, but when he leaves, Michael drops something, Jason goes to pick it up. It is a flash drive. Jason thinks about returning it but decides not to. When he gets back home he will see what is on it. Carmen comes to the party but she does stay long. After spending a little while, she and Jason go up to her room where they stay the rest of the night. The next morning, they are both acting weird over what happened between them. Jason tells her that they should wait to see if it was just the drinks or if it was their feelings for each other. When they get back home, Jason tries to get into the flash drive but he can't. He sends it to David, a friend of his, and a few days later, David calls him back and said that he got into the files and sent him everything in an email. When Jason sees what is in the file, he knows what Michale is doing. Jason wants to call the police and turn Michale in but he holds off. Carmen and Jason are not as close as they were after coming home from Cancun. They are no longer as close as they were. It has been a few weeks and Carmen has started getting sick to her stomach after having lunch with her friend Emma. This goes on for a few days and when she goes to get her notes so that she can finish her article on Jason, her boss Stanley tells her to go home and he would get someone else to finish the article or that he would finish it. He asked her if she had been to the doctor and she said no. Stanley said that he would get her an appointment with his doctor for that day. When she goes to the doctor, he runs a bunch of tests on her and when he comes back in to talk to her, he tells her she is fine other than being pregnant. She gets a call from Jason asking if they could have lunch. She agrees to meet with him. She was going to tell him about the baby, but things happen and she doesn't. She thinks he has enough to worry about with the championship game coming up. Jason doesn't tell Carmen about what he has on Michael since he doesn't want her to be Michael's target. Jason calls Michael in for a meeting with him. When Michael comes to his office, Jason shows him the files from the flash drive and tells him what he knows Michael is doing. Michael tells him that what he is planning won't work. It is two weeks to the championship game and the team has a game to play. As Jason goes over the files, he sees that it shows something about Evans, the quarterback being hurt. He thinks that Michael and his buddies are going to bet on Evans not playing in the game. Jason is at the game and it is the last few minutes and Jason talks Evans into playing. The Vipers win the game and Jason knows that Michael and his buddies have lost a lot of money on the bets. Carman has gotten a call from Emma asking if she has looked at the morning papers yet. Carmen tells her no. She is told to look at the Ledger online edition and then have a look at the Daily Press. After she is to call Emma back or come to the office so they could talk. Carmen asked "How did the article about Jason turn out? Did she know who wrote it?" Emma tells her that she thinks she knows who wrote it. When she goes to the Ledger home page, she is shocked at what she sees. It is a full-screen photo of her. There are other photos and they are all from the time she was In Cancun. When she goes to the Daily Press home page she is even more shocked with what she sees. It is the headline that gets to her. The article is about Jason. The headline is only ten words. GAMBLING SCANDAL ROCKS LA VEGA ON EVE OF VIPERS CHAMPIONSHIP. The article goes on to say things about Jason and then it says something about them being a couple and her being pregnant. There were only two people that knew she was pregnant other than her. That was the doctor and Emma. While she is sitting thinking about what to do, she gets a message from Jason. "I'm at your apartment building, can I come up to talk? A few seconds later he is at her door and said to her "Carmen, please, can we talk about this, please. She starts to open the door, but hesitates. "Talk about what?" He tells her everything. When she opens the door, his expression is a mix of anger, sorrow, and wild hope. "Hi." he said when he sees her. "Hi." Can I come in?" She steps aside and said "I think you'd better. They talk about everything and he tells her that he is just waiting on what the board is going to do with him. She tells him that she is going to handle the person who wrote the article about him at the Ledger. Jason tells her that he is going to give her the flash drive and she can do the story about what is going on and help clear his name. She said something about not being able to tell who downloaded the information. About that time, his friend David calls him to see how he is doing and Jason said something to him about what is going on and asked if there was any way to prove who downloaded the information. David said yes and explains how to find out that information. Carmen goes into the office and straight to Stanley's office. She goes off on him and wants to know why he did what he did. His excuse was money. She tells him that he will never get to enjoy it because she is turning him in. He leaves and doesn't come back. Jason has given the owners information on how to find out who downloaded the information on the day of the championship game. It was about the same time that the article Carmen wrote came out.Will things for Carmen and Jason work out?This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. I really enjoyed this book from start to finish and the chemistry that burns between Carmen and Jason is so hot. Carmen Fuentes is a reporter for the La Vega Ledger and finally gets her big break doing a story on billionaires and her first job is Jason Millstone Miller who is now retired from AFL and doesn’t do interviews because she already tried but he is also one of the co-owners of his old team the La Vega Vipers and at board meeting he was told to do the interview with Carmen because it would be good for the team. Jason’s heart will always be with his old teammates and so that’s why he’s now one of the owners but some of the others are a bit shady especially Michael Angentino who also owns The Pearl Casino but anyway he agrees to the interview with Carmen knowing she is the sister to Francisco his rival from the Miami Mantas but upon meeting her he is shocked by the attraction he feels for her and wants to get to know her better. Doing the interview with Jason could launch her career but never has she been so drawn to someone so strongly and so this could be a problem. Carmen’s trying to learn the secrets that Jason is hiding from her and Jason after seeing Micheal drop a USB stick and finding out what’s on it is trying to keep Carmen safe. Going to Cancun with the team and Jason for the championship was a bad idea but her boss Stanley thought it wasn’t and she could get more information out of it but what Carmen got was a magical night with Jason but in the morning was a little awkward but she moved forward with her story all the while not realising she is becoming part of the story herself. A few weeks later she finds out she is pregnant and tells her best friend Emma and her boss and he sells her out for money so when the story breaks Carmen’s pregnancy is splashed over the font page along side Jason ‘s for corruption. What will happen between Jason and Carmen can they clear there names and take down the bad guys and maybe have a chance of a future together.
